Why Sun-sign Astrology by Liz Greene?
With all the wonderful information freely available from Astrodienst
about every dimension of astrology, the appearance of a new section
based just on Sun-signs may seem strange. After all, you can see your
entire birth chart online, and read interpretations for every planet, house
and aspect. It's all pretty sophisticated, and that's just the free stuff.
Astrodienst doesn't need to go "down market", since everyone knows it's
the best astrology web site there is.
So what are we doing with
Astrology for Lovers?
Well, for one thing, if you've just met someone and you're in a hurry to
get some idea of what they're like, you probably only know their birthday
or only their Sun-sign. That means you can get only limited astrological
information. But limited information is better than nothing at all. The
more we understand about ourselves and other people, the more
intelligent our choices are, and the better we are at recognising and
respecting other people's "otherness". Every little bit helps.
Also, the Sun in the horoscope is the most important single factor in an
individual's character, because it reflects our deepest values and
aspirations. People don't always behave like their Sun-sign in obvious
ways. But somewhere deep inside, the fundamental needs and dreams of
the Sun-sign are always present. Some people express the Sun-sign later
in life, and some earlier; some overtly, and some subtly. But sooner or
later we need to recognise and embody the values and aspirations of that
sign, on some level, or we never feel really fulfilled. Knowing something
about someone's Sun-sign can further a much deeper understanding of
what makes that person "tick".
The Sun-sign won't reveal the nuances of a relationship, like whether or
not the person you fancy prefers satin sheets on the bed or a mirror on the
ceiling. Sexual tastes aren't really described by the Sun-sign; they belong
more to Venus, and also to the Moon. The Sun-sign also won't offer any
information about whether a relationship will last, or whether the other
person is really in love with you. You'll have to work that one out for
yourself.
The more complex psychological issues which inevitably arise in close
relationships also aren't going to be revealed by just knowing someone's
Sun-sign. For that, you need an in-depth look at how the planets in each
chart interact, and what the composite chart looks like. These things can
be found in Liz Greene's
Relationship Horoscope,
and that goes very deep indeed. But it's really for when you start thinking
seriously about what goes on between you and another person, and want
to know a lot more about the subtler issues that can shape the future of
the relationship.
Meanwhile, knowing about your own Sun-sign and that of the other
person can be revealing in other, more general ways. Like what you value
most in life, and what kinds of things you respect and admire in yourself
and other people. Not just love relationships, but also friendships,
business relationships and family relationships require mutual
understanding, tolerance and respect. Knowledge of the Sun-sign can add
enormously to that understanding. It's only a start, but it's a big start. It's
also fun to see how much of your own Sun-sign you express overtly, and
how much is hidden away behind other, more powerful influences in the
birth chart. In the ancient world, the Sun was called "the Great Life-
Giver". It's all about what makes you feel truly alive, and what makes
your heart sing. So enjoy
Astrology for Lovers,
and if it whets your appetite, we'll be very pleased. Then you can go
deeper and learn more.
